A Budget Is Not a Spending Target
Giving your advisor a range does not mean we will automatically spend the maximum. It allows us to compare suitable choices, explain the tradeoffs, and look for the best overall value within your comfort level.
Look beyond the advertised price
Think About the Complete Trip
The lowest advertised fare may not reflect the full vacation cost. Depending on the trip, your advisor may need to account for several additional pieces.
Getting There
Airfare, baggage, airport transportation, parking, transfers, or an overnight hotel.
The Vacation
Accommodations, cruise or tour fare, taxes, meals, activities, excursions, and upgrades.
Preparing & Enjoying
Travel protection, gratuities, documents, connectivity, personal purchases, and spending money.

What Should I Tell My Advisor?
“We would like the complete trip to stay near $____ for ____ travelers, including/excluding airfare. We could consider up to $____ if it gives us something important, such as a better location, more convenient schedule, or a special experience.”
That one statement gives your advisor much more useful direction than asking only for the cheapest option.
